Florida Department of Education

VAM (Value Added Model) measures the impact of a teacher on their students’ learning. The model accounts for students’ past performance (over the past 3 years) and performance of students with similar demographic characteristics and averages the effect on students in their class to accurately measure the effect of their teaching.

DJJ Educational Accountability Rating

Developed rating system comprised of 11 components for determining the rating of DJJ Educational Programs to ensure continued education of juveniles.

In accordance with Florida Statute 1003.52, the Florida DJJ is required to provide educational services to all students to ensure continued educational progress.

Responsible for passing Florida Department of Education agency language through the board of education.

Distance Education and Horizontal Stratification in U.S. Higher Education

Quantitative study of the rise of distance/online education across public, private, and for profit institutions.

Detailed analysis of the financials motivations of institutions and the rise in horizontal stratification in demographic populations associated with distance education.

Historical analysis of the policies and changes in state and federal funding that led to increasing academic capitalism and stratification in postsecondary education opportunities.

Master’s Thesis

Postsecondary Remedial Courses: Impact on Expectations and Achievement

Review of remedial courses on beginning college students expectations based on student characteristics. Results find that students with the lowest quartile grades and test scores improve their expectations, but the other 3/4’s of remedial course students have the same or lower expectations for level of college completed.
